Calls for referendum on ACTA in Poland

Jaroslaw Kaczynski, leader of the opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party, said: “We will submit a motion in parliament to hold a referendum about Poland signing, accepting, this very highly controversial international agreement.”

Since Poland signed the ACTA agreement in Tokyo on Thursday but opposition members from across the political spectrum have voiced their support for the thousands of anti-ACTA protestors who took to the streets last week.

The treaty needs to be ratified by the Polish parliament and signed by the president, a process that will no doubt spark more unrest in Polish cities.
